TURA, July 23: The GSU, central executive committee, on Friday urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to look into the alleged unscientific and unhygienic dumping of waste by the Tura Municipal Board (TMB) at its dumping ground at Rongkhon Songgital.
In their complaint submitted to the chief minister through West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the GSU said that improper dumping at the site has resulted in waste spilling over to the Christian cemetery and covering several graves, angering the families of the deceased.
The GSU said that such haphazard dumping of waste is not only an eyesore but also a menace to the environment as the waste spills into the Ringre stream, thereby posing a threat to the aquatic life and the health of the people who rely on the water from the stream.
It also suggested that a wall be constructed immediately at the dumping ground so that the waste is prevented from spilling over.
