IIM Shillong’s prog stresses on entrepreneurship as career option

SHILLONG, July 24: The IIM Shillong on Saturday organised a virtual programme to welcome 251 students for its flagship MBA programme and 24 scholars for its doctoral programme during which stress was laid on creating jobs and not looking for one.
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Sunil Kant Munjal, chairman of Hero Corporate Service Pvt. Ltd, suggested the participants to develop entrepreneurship as a part of their natural education.
“I urge you to not just look for jobs; become someone who will create and offer more jobs. India and the world need many more job creators. Entrepreneurship should be a part of your natural education. IIM Shillong will encourage you to be innovative, to look at things differently,” Munjal said.
Heaping praises on the Institute’s quality management education, Munjal iterated the importance of MBA as a programme, and how the amalgamation of theory and real-life application opportunities can make a difference.
He also reiterated the need to plan for contingencies by learning from the pandemic crises, find efficient solutions that are accessible and available to a larger section of the society.
Prof DP Goyal, Director-IIM Shillong, during the programme, congratulated the participants for making it to the Institute, notwithstanding the challenging times.
Chairman-Board of Governors, IIM Shillong, Shishir Bajoria, on the other hand, graced the occasion through an audio message.
It may be mentioned that out of two lakh applications, 251 students made it to the IIM Shillong.
“With the diversity of the batch, the students enrolled held from 24 states, including five from the Northeastern States,” a statement in this regard said.
