SHILLONG, July 26: The Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) member Angela Rangad, who has been protesting against the state government, on Monday refused to comply with the request of East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo to vacate the entry gate and premises of the Main Secretariat here.
Rangad instead has resolved to continue her sit-in at the entry gate which she had started on July 19 last.
Through the protest, TUR member has demanded of the state government to release the financial assistance of Rs 2,100 per head promised to daily wagers last year. “I want to send a message to the Deputy Commissioner and the government to vacate their egos,” Rangad said.
Earlier, Laloo had asked Rangad to vacate the entry gate/premises at the earliest.
In a letter to the TUR member, the DC informed the former that the Labour department is working on the matter raised by her,
while adding that the sit-in at the entry or premises of the Main Secretariat building is restricted.
“It looks like my protest is waking up the government machinery. I have not violated the COVID-19 protocols since I am sitting here alone,” she said.
TUR member also pointed out that the people want to take out a rally in protest against the government, but have not been able to owing to the ongoing pandemic.
Emphasising that these “gates of power” should be converted into “gates of grievances”, Rangad called upon the public to come forward with their grievances to the government.
