SHILLONG: Adding significance to the remarkable date of 12-12-12, IIM Shillong on Wednesday organised a workshop on ‘Leadership and Management in 21st Century with insights from Swami Vivekananda’.

The workshop laid emphasis on the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and their relevance in the present management scenario.

Speakers at the workshop included Swami NIkhileswarananda, Secretary Ramakrishna Mission, Vadodara, Swami Sumanasunanda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Cherrapunji, Swami Achyutesananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong.

The workshop gave valuable insights from the life of Swami Vivekananda which elucidated the importance of time management while presenting the participants with the fourth wave of management which is a holistic style of management based on Indian Ethos.

During the workshop, it was learnt that applying this Vedic knowledge to the contemporary management scenario would add value to the domain of management.

‘Indianisation of global management’ would be the apt solution for challenges of the present business world, it was observed.

The workshop also highlighted the qualities of a leader stating that leadership of present era needs to be revamped. A Leader should ‘walk the talk’ and lead the subordinates through example. Servant leadership is mandatory for business managers to strike a chord with the changing trends of business.

Further, it was stressed that business ethics and value based management is required for sustenance of any business establishment. Adherence to ethics has been the mantra of the successful businesses which stood the test of time.

Elucidating the prominent quote of Swami Vivekananda ‘Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached’, the workshop stressed on the importance of concentration of mind and whole hearted commitment to the goals on hand.
