TURA, July 28: True to their word to kickstart a series of protests to demand Inner Line Permit, four organizations from Garo Hills that form part of a bigger state conglomeration of protest bodies began their poster campaign with banners coming up in Tura and other towns on Tuesday.
Members of the GSU (Tengsak Momin faction) and the FKJGP, ADE and AYWO have raised the banner of revolt in the Garo Hills region demanding the imposition of the ILP in the state.
On Tuesday, AYWO members erected a large banner “No ILP, No Rest” in the main road junction that leads up to the Tura Circuit House- a place where all VIPs head to for high level official meetings and stay during their visit to the Garo Hills.
The banner comes two days after the same group burnt an effigy of the union home minister Amit Shah outside the Commissioner of Divisions office in Tura that also doubles up as an office of the chief minister whenever he visits the region.
The effigy burning was in protest against the union minister’s cold response to any  discussion on the issue when a delegation of the various organizations called on him during his visit to Shillong on Saturday.
The seven protest groups in the state have expressed disappointment with the home minister’s visit to the state.
Since the failed meeting, these organizations have spoken of staging various protests across the state, beginning with a poster campaign that has now begun in the region.
