SHILLONG: Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope on Friday adjourned the House sine-die.

During the last day of the Winter Session on Friday, the Assembly passed the Meghalaya Appropriation (N0.111) Bill, 2012 to authorize payment and appropriation of Rs 560. 72 crore out of the consolidated fund of Meghalaya to defray charges which will come in course of payment during the financial year ending March 31,2013.

The Court Fees (Meghalaya Amendment) Bill, 2012, Meghalaya Forest Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2012 and the new Meghalaya Lokayukta Bill, 2012 were also passed.

The Winter Assembly Session which began on December 11 debated on several issues pertaining to influx and alleged encroachment of land by armed forces among others.

In his valedictory address, the Speaker Charles Pyngrope while hoping for the “safe return of the members of the House after the upcoming Assembly elections in 2013” reminded the legislators of their duty as servants to the masses.

While recalling the major events of the Eight Legislative Assembly, Pyngrope said that since the House was constituted in 2008, it lost former Chief Minister Late EK Mawlong who had contributed immensely to the State and to the House.

“We also lost NCP late Mason Sing Sangma, a member who had contributed in his own humble way, by enriching the working of the House and its

Committees,” he said while adding that the House had also lost an eminent figure of the State as well as the Nation in the form of former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma who resigned from its membership.

The Assembly Speaker also stated that during the present tenure, the House had the likes of Dr Donkupar Roy, DD Lapang and Dr Mukul Sangma, all of whom continue to contribute in leading the State towards all round development.

While stating that every House is sharply divided on political lines Pyngrope recalled that one such difference had led to the imposition of President’s Rule in the State.

Pyngrope also thanked his predecessor, Bindo M Lanong for his service a Presiding Officer.
