SHILLONG: A delegation of the Meghalaya Editors’ & Publishers’ Association (MEPA) met Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Minister AT Mondal on Friday seeking a revision of the current advertisement policy.

Besides demanding the revision of the advertisement rate, the MEPA members also objected to the issuance of advertisements to newspapers published from other states by the State Government arguing that such dailies hardly had any circulation in the State.

The members also protested that such publications have not invested any infrastructure in the State and circulate few copies in Government offices only, with the sole aim of ‘eating away the share of local publications.’

The MEPA also discussed the issues relating to Committee on the utilization of the Journalists’ Welfare Fund in presence of Commissioner and Secretary, I&PR MHK Marak and I&PR Director HM Shangpliang.

Mondal assured the delegation that a thorough revision of the advertisement policy will be carried out by his department while taking the MEPA into confidence.

“The local publications have worked hand in hand with the Government in informing its activities to the people and we will try our level best to help them,” Mondal said.
