One more branch of Ri Bhoi College on cards

NONGPOH, Aug 6: One more branch of Ri Bhoi College to be called the Northern Ri Bhoi College will soon be inaugurated at Diwon here in September this year, and will aim to ensure quality higher education for youths across the district.
This was revealed by Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr DD Lapang, on Friday after the meeting of the governing body of Ri Bhoi College at Alpha English Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh, which was also attended by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem (also chairman of the sub-governing body), WK Blah, secretary of the governing body, and RR Makdoh, adviser to the sub-governing body among others.
Speaking to pressmen here, Lapang said that this has been one of the aspirations of the people of Umden Nongtluh area and also a vision of the Ri Bhoi College to provide quality higher studies to every part of Ri Bhoi.
He also told media persons that a branch of the college which is located at Bhoirymbong called the Eastern Ri Bhoi College was already established earlier.
He pointed out that most of the students pursuing higher studies would either have to go to Nongpoh, Shillong or other cities which would in turn bring financial burdens for parents.
He went on to laud educationists and responsible leaders of the district crediting their efforts for creation of the new branch of the college.
The college will initially function with only Arts stream, he said, adding that admission of students is under way for the academic session 2021 and classes will be temporarily held at Nongtluh Higher Secondary School.
