SHILLONG: Lummawbah SC beat Lawsohtun SC by a solitary goal scored by Caribel Tangsang in the 37th minute in the Women’s Football Tournament as part of the Shillong Games.
Although it was a dead rubber, both teams played their hearts out for a win.
Lawsohtun came near to scoring on many occasions but lady luck was in favour of Lummawbah.
The second match of the day was like a warm-up match between Malki and Pynthor where Malki managed a late goal in the 50th minute through the boot of Morda Khongsit to boost their morale for the title clash on Tuesday between both teams at 2:00pm at Ground No III.
Both teams can boast of players who have played at the state level.
Meanwhile, in the men’s basketball tournament, Lummawbah SC beat Young XI SC 45-13, while Lumdiengjri SC downed Wahingdoh SC in a close contest 47-41.
Ryntih SC thrashed Malki SC 65-11 and Laitumkhrah SC got the better of Umpling SC 43-19.
In the girls’ competition Nongthymmai beat Mawkhar SC 50-38 and Lawmali SC beat Wahingdoh 35-9, to cap a bad day for the locality in both boys and girls basketball.
Marbisu SC beat Umpling 21-12, while Lawsohtun received a walkover as the Malki team did not turn up.
