Cong to meet EC for error in voters’ list

Agartala: Taking a serious note over major malpractices in the photo electoral rolls, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) would meet the Election Commission to make it aware about the large scale discrepancy. The Congress will call on the Election Commission on December 19 to make it aware about malpractices in the draft photo electoral rolls, said PCC president Sudip Roy Barman at a press conference at Congress Bhavan here on Tuesday.

“This time, I along with secretary of AICC Legal and Human Rights Department KC Mittal is going to meet the Election Commission with specific complaints in respect to the photo electoral rolls”, he said. According to Roy Barman, around 1500-2000 bogus or ghost voters found place in the electoral rolls of each Assembly constituency.

Earlier also PCC president met the EC and brief it about the manipulation in the voters’ list. After this, the EC has engaged four observers to verify the complaint in respect to the draft photo electoral rolls and in course of verification some allegations found genuine.

He said the Congress would give stipend to unemployed people till the age of 50 years. Roy Barman said interested job aspirants could collect forms from party offices from December 21-31. All filled up forms should be submitted during the period, he said.

PCC president also criticized Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for misleading people on the cash transfer policy. “Public Distribution System (PDS) will remain in same place but Chief Minister and his party- CPM have been misleading the people by saying cash transfer is nothing but a ploy to abolish the PDS”, he said.
