MET warns of enhanced rainfall over Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Aug 10: More rainy days lie ahead for Meghalayans as the state will have to brace for yet another spell of rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department Shillong has warned of enhanced monsoon rainfall activity over the state between August 10 and 14.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the IMD said, “Under the influence of strong moist southwesterly winds at lower tropospheric levels from Bay of Bengal to North East and adjoining east India, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated very heavy rainfall to extremely heavy rainfall (is) very likely over Meghalaya during next five days”.
“A cyclonic circulation lies over Bihar and adjoining east Uttar Pradesh and extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Amritsar, Kurukshetra, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur, Jalpaiguri and thence eastwards to Arunachal Pradesh,” it said.
