SHILLONG: The men’s and women’s basketball finals of the Shillong Games 2012 on Saturday saw a keen contest between the teams to fight for the championship.

The women’s finals was a nail biting finish between Nongthymmai and Lawmali where both teams, consisting of state-level players, displayed their talents and skills equally.

Lawmali led up to the third quarter of the match, but Nongthymmai fought hard in the last quarter to claim the championship by beating Lawmali by 38 to 37 to emerge as the champions.

If one exciting final was not enough, the men provided a similarly thrilling encounter, with Ryntih and Lumdiengjri at par with each other until the last quarter.

However, the experienced players of Ryntih utilised most of the chances that came their way and beat Lumdiengjri by 36 points to 31.

The matches were witnessed by the Commissioner of Sports, Meghalaya, in presence of the Managing Director of Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd, the Director of Sports, Meghalaya, Director of Arts and Culture Meghalaya, the President and Officials of the Shillong Sports Association, who also helped in distributing the medals and trophies to the champions and runners-up of all disciplines of the Shillong Games 2012.
