SHILLONG, Aug 27: For the first time in the history of the 70-year-old Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), a Union Minister has visited the Council and held discussions with the Chief Executive Member, the Executive Members and other officers.
Union Minister of State for AYUSH and Woman and Child Development, Mahendra Munjapara, on Friday held discussions with KHADC CEM Titosstarwell Chyne and others on the traditional herbal medicine practitioners of the state.
Chyne later told journalists that it was a momentous day for the KHADC as a Union Minister had visited them for the first time ever.
“We want to protect our traditional herbal practitioners and we want them to be recognised,” the CEM said after the meeting, adding that an institute of traditional medicine will be set up at Lumsohpetbneng in Ri Bhoi.
The Council has requested the Union Minister to grace the occasion when the institute will be inaugurated later this year, Chyne added.
The KHADC will also send a memorandum to the Union Minister, seeking assistance from the Ministry after the minister assured to help the Council.
Earlier, the minister also visited the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH) at Mawdiangdiang and interacted with the students and faculty.
