GH villagers receive training on fodder production

SHILLONG, Aug 28: The framer (KVK), West Garo Hills, organised a training programme on Friday at Marapara village during which locals were enlightened on the importance of fodder in livestock farming.
According to a statement, the participants, during the training on fodder production, were apprised of the different types of fodder grasses and trees that can be grown in the village.
“There is a huge gap between demand and supply of good quality fodder in the region. Emphasis was also given to establish fodder banks in the villages to help the farmers during scarcity period,” the statement added.
“Participants were taught about the cultivation methods of different types of perennial fodder  grasses like Para, Guinea, Hybrid Napier, Congosignal, and Stylosanthes and trees like Subabul and Bauhinia,” it added.
It may be mentioned that a total of 27 farmers partook in the training programme.
The KVK, West Garo Hills, during the programme, also distributed fingerlings and fish feed among the farmers.
A fodder demonstration plot was also established in front of the Custom Hiring Centre under the NICRA project in Marapara village.
