SHILLONG: The State government is on the look-out for a new chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women as the present incumbent Roshan Warjri is busy campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections.

The government will have to find the replacement before the declaration of elections dates.

Once the code of conduct comes into effect, the appointment of a new chairperson will become difficult.

Warjri is planning to contest from Shillong North constituency on a Congress ticket.

“Her absence in the office has affected the functioning of the commission,” sources (said on Friday.

Warjri, who has been holding the post for almost a year, was appointed as the new Chairperson of the Commission in place of Susanna K Marak in November, 2011.

Warjri was not available for comments.

A member of the commission, however, denied that her absence has affected the functioning of the Commission.

According to the member, there were reports in the past that Wajri was planning to relinquish the post by next year.
