SHILLONG, Sep 5: KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Titosstarwell Chyne has said that the two-decade-old proposal of setting up a 100-bed facility at Sohra Community Health Centre (CHC) is yet to take shape.
While speaking at a programme to hand over an ambulance to the CHC, Chyne said that the proposal of a 100-bed facility was initiated by former Chief Minister, late Dr. FA Khonglam, who was also the then local MLA of Sohra.
He recalled that this proposal was done away with by the state government after Khonglam did not remain in power. “This CHC at Sohra was named after the father of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, JJM Nichols Roy. But now we can no longer trace the name of this great political leader in the CHC which is a great disappointment,” Chyne, who is also the local MDC of Sohra, said.
According to him, there is an urgent need to upgrade healthcare in the CHC for the benefit of the people of Sohra area.
He told the gathering that he had sent several letters to the state government on the need to strengthen the health services in Sohra CHC.
