SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Secretary WMS Pariat and Director General of Police (DGP) Kulbir Krishan will leave for the national capital on Thursday to attend a meeting convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs to discuss on issues pertaining to crime against women.

The meeting, which will review the legal and statutory framework, procedural issues, implementation, disposal of cases and weakness in the laws dealing with different types of offences against women, will be held on January 4 and see participation of chief secretaries and DGPs from all the states.

It has been learnt that the Chief Secretary and DGP will furnish Meghalaya’s status and statistics on violence against women at the meeting.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of the sensational rape and murder of the 23-year old medical student in New Delhi and the subsequent outburst of people condemning inadequate laws to deal with the perpetrator(s) of such heinous crimes.
