MAWKYRWAT, Sep 16: Residents of four villages in South West Khasi Hills — Phlangmawprah, Nongmluh, Thnangbyrniang and Mawphansaw — along with members of the Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) Umdohlun Circle have threatened to storm into Mawkyrwat office of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to protest against the purported failure of the corporation to restore power supply to these villages, which have been living in darkness for months after the transformers were damaged.
“The Union will soon meet the people and leaders of these four villages to discuss about the problem and if the office remains silent and adamant, anytime the Union along with the residents of these villages will storm into the MeECL office at Mawkyrwat,” the president of KSU Umdohlun Circle, Dusterwell K Lyngdoh, said.
Speaking about the problem at Phlangmawprah village, Lyngdoh alleged carelessness on part of the MeECL in Mawkyrwat, which electrified 12 houses, which were unknown to people of Phlangmawprah, whose pending bills amount to thousands of rupees.
“These are fake connections given by the office and we have complained many times and also requested the office to conduct an inspection in order to find out whether they are the residents of Phlangmawprah or not, but till now the office has not done anything,” Lyngdoh said.
