SHILLONG, Sep 22: Joint Secretary of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Diwakar Mishra, has appealed to farmers, entrepreneurs, traders, exporters and stakeholders from Meghalaya to toil until India’s ambitious challenge of USD 400-billion export target for 2021-22 is realised.
Expressing hope that Meghalaya will make a significant contribution to the Centre’s ambition, he exhorted stakeholders, farmers and traders to focus on the unique products of Meghalaya, which, he informed, have also received GI Tag.
Mishra was speaking at a virtual programme which was organised in a bid to promote trade and export of local produce of Meghalaya.
The programme ‘Vanijya Utsav’, which was thematised on ‘Showcasing India as a Rising Economic Force’, was organised by the Department of Commerce & Industries, Meghalaya, in collaboration with Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Jute Product Development & Export Promotion Council.
Addressing the programme, Mishra also appealed to all Meghalaya-based stakeholders to take advantage of Ministry’s schemes for promotion of export. “In fact, the efforts for export should not only be concentrated to Bangladesh, Myanmar and other countries of South East Asia but also to USA, Europe and other countries,” he said.
He argued that Meghalaya has advantages when compared to other NE states due to the climate and availability of organic farming here.
Observing that Northeastern states have untapped potential in the export sector, Mishra appealed to stakeholders from the region to work together as a team.
