MAWKYRWAT, Sep 23: In what can be called a bizarre incident, an elderly person was killed after being shot at by a man who had accompanied him to chase away wild animals which reportedly destroyed their crops in Ngunraw village, South West Khasi Hills.
After being shot, the man, identified as Khrimshon Thongni (67), died on the spot, while the shooter, Loadstar Thongni (47), was arrested.
According to police, the incident happened at 2 pm on Tuesday at Rngoi Dombah. On Wednesday, the police visited Ngunraw village to conduct an  inquiry into the incident.
The police were informed by the villagers that some men from Ngunraw village went to shoo away wild animals from Rngoi Dombah.
During the hunting, the men went their separate ways and waited for the wild animals to come out, they added. Unfortunately, Loadstar Thongni mistakenly fired a shot at Khrimshon Thongni, assuming that it was a wild animal, the villagers said.
