SWAT commandoes' high handedness comes to fore

TURA: Seeking justice and fair dealing regarding an incident of police high-handedness, the Nokma of Sakalgre, Tura submitted a complaint to the Officer-in-Charge of Tura Police Station against SWAT members of the Police.

Allegedly, on December 20 last, at around 4:00 pm SWAT members entered the village of Sakalgre in two gypsy vehicles and beat up four villagers with firewood and rifle butts unprovoked, causing them severe injuries.

The Nokma informed that the four villagers who were assaulted by the SWAT commandoes were Tony T Sangma (30), Bester T Sangma (35), Nelbin T Sangma (18) and Pedison M Sangma (45).

The Nokma also alleged that the SWAT commandoes had plucked and took with them hundreds of oranges from an orange orchard in the village without making any payments rendering the owner of the orchard a wrongful loss of about Rs 5000.
