Rehab in Tura to cater to mentally challenged

TURA, Sep 27: The newly established Half Way Home at Robagre locality of New Tura was on Monday inaugurated by Director of Social Welfare department, DD Shira, giving hope to the mentally challenged people from the region.
The inauguration of the new facility took place in the presence of West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, CN Sangma, District Social Welfare Officer, H Ch Sangma, Joint Director of Health department, Dr. Janulla K Marak, District Program Officer, CD Arengh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Krison R Marak, members of District Task Force among other dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion, Shira, said that NGOs and civil societies are part and parcel of the Social Welfare department, adding “cooperation and support of the dedicated NGOs will be of immense help to the department in rendering services to the mentally and physically challenged people.”
Shira also sought the help of task force members, religious and local leaders to encourage the NGOs to come forward and contribute towards the well-being of the Half Way Home.
DC in-charge of WGH, on the other hand, expressed hope that the Half Way Home will go a long way in providing care to mentally challenged people.
He also sought the moral and physical support from religious groups and members of civil society of the region in this regard.
It may be mentioned that the Half Way Home is a rehabilitation centre for mentally challenged people with required staff in place and a task force to oversee the management there.
It was also informed that the Half Way Home can accommodate a total of 25 inmates.
