IIPH-S welcomes new batch
SHILLONG, Oct 2: The inaugural function of the third batch of the Masters in Public Health (MPH) was held on Friday at the conference hall of the Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong (IIPH-S). A statement in this regard informed that the programme was attended by Principal Secretary, Health department, Sampath Kumar, as the chief guest, who, during the programme, dwelt at length about state government’s MOTHER programme. He also asked the IIPH-S to consider conducting behavioural change study to help address the issues of inadequate birth spacing as well as the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy. Director of the institute, Prof. Sandra Albert, during her address, welcome the new batch of students. It may be mentioned that the IIPH-S is the only institute in the North East that currently offers a full-time MPH, a two-year postgraduate course.
Training under SAMARTH
SHILLONG, Oct 2: As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC), Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Shillong, inaugurated technical training under SAMARTH in Tikrikilla, West Garo Hills. According to a statement, a total of 33 artisans are to benefit from the training programme, which was attended by principal of Tikrikilla Higher Secondary School, Nagendra Rabha, Supervisor of Department of Textiles, Tikish Ch Rabha, among others. Handicrafts Promotion Officer, HSC, Shillong, Khushbu Rabha, informed that the artisans mostly comprise women who have the know-how of traditional hand embroidery craft. It may be mentioned that the prime objective of the training is to promote skilling and skill upgrade in traditional sectors of handicrafts, and to enable provision of sustainable livelihood either by wage or self-employment to all sections of the society.
