NONGSTOIN, Oct 7: Accusing some government departments of attempting to evade the media, the Journalists Association of West Khasi Hills has said that the media was not made privy to select public events organised in the district.
Leaders of the Association have maintained that the departments have avoided the media over fears of possible reports being filed against them.
It was revealed that several important public-centric programmes were organised by different departments in West Khasi Hills but details pertaining to most of them have failed to reach the masses.
The Association also pointed out that late information was received about Health Minister James Sangma attending an inaugural function at Civil Hospital in the district.
No one was made aware of it and this shows that the department is not willing to give information to the public about what the minister along with the department has done, the Association added.
The Association on Thursday also called on West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum, seeking his intervention.
