NONGPOH, Oct 8: The regional committees on border disputes for Ri Bhoi and Kamrup (Metro) districts will conduct a joint visit to two clusters in Khanapara and Pilangkata on Saturday morning and take the views and suggestions of the local residents.
The first round of meeting between the two committees was held in Guwahati on Friday.
Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, who is the chairman of the regional committee for Ri Bhoi, told The Shillong Times that it held a meeting at Nongpoh on Friday. The meeting was attended by MLAs Mayralborn Syiem and Sosthenes Sohtun and Transport Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare, among others.
The deputy chief minister argued that the government selected these three legislators as the members of the committee they are the representatives of the areas of differences.
He said since they know the ground reality better, they can provide better inputs to the government.
Some MDCs are unhappy on not being included in the committee but Tynsong said it is not possible to pick everyone. He said it was decided at the Chief Minister-level talks that there should be not more than five members in each committee.
“We have three committees and we have included the members of district councils, traditional heads as well the headmen concerned,” Tynsong said.
He said the committee for Ri Bhoi will hold the talks with its Assam counterpart based on the suggestions of the district council, the traditional heads and the headmen.
