Newly-floated body opposes plan to divert Simsang river

TURA: A new group called the Simsang River Protection & Development Committee (SRPDC) was formed recently at a general meeting held at Rombagre playground by the residents of villages located on the banks of the Simsang River.

The office bearers of SRPDC, who were elected on the same day, informed that the main aim of constituting the Committee was to protect the source of the Simsang River (Darebokgre), which the Government is contemplating to divert.

The Committee said that they will not allow the Simsang River to be diverted or altered in any way.

The meeting was attended by Nokma, headmen and villagers from Sasatgre, Chandigre, Oragitok, Rombagre, Silchotchigre, Romba-A·dinggre, Timbogre Chokkagre, Chiwatigre, Kakwakgre, Rangmalgre, Mangrugre, and several other adjoining villages.
