SHILLONG: A day after the State Election Department directed the Community and Rural Development Department to transfer all the Block Development Officers (BDOs) with ‘political connections’, the department has commenced the process of identifying such officials.
Talking to The Shillong Times here on Friday, Principal Secretary, Community and Rural Development KN Kumar said, “We have already started the process,” adding that the required steps would be initiated by Monday or Tuesday.
The official said that the names of BDOs who need to be transferred are being discussed at the Chief Secretary and Chief Electoral Officer level.
Kumar also informed that any BDO with close relations with politicians would not be allowed to participate in the election affairs as per the model code of conduct.
“If a BDO is posted in a same place for more than three years, we would also take that into account,” he added.
The latest directive of the Election department came in the wake of reports that many BDOs in the State enjoy political patronage.
BDO of Pynursla Community and Rural Development Block, Present S Tynsong, younger brother of Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong who was posted as at Pynursla C7RD immediately after the 2008 election is likely feature in the list.
The Government had recently effected the transfer of Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police Claudia Lyngwa as she was said to have close links with former Chief Minister and Nongpoh MLA DD Lapang.
