Ram Singh calls for compliance with SOPs in poll campaigns

TURA, Oct 19: Following reports of COVID-19 protocol violations during election campaigns for the upcoming Rajabala by-elections by various contesting groups, West Garo Hills District Election Officer, Ram Singh, on Tuesday held a meeting with various party functionaries in the presence of the General Observer at the DRDA Hall in Tura.
During the meeting, Singh exhorted all political parties, contesting candidates and the supporters to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols during the campaign.
Informing that there are Broad Guidelines on how to conduct elections, Singh said that 50 per cent of public gathering or rallies, subject to adherence to COVID protocols, are allowed and a maximum of 1,000 persons in case of star campaigners.
Moreover, the ground for public gathering should have barricades, especially for star campaigners, and only five persons are allowed for door-to-door campaigns while road shows are not allowed, he said, adding that the maximum time allotted for campaigns is till 7 pm.
