SHILLONG: The call for severest action against the ‘tainted persons’ involved in the LP school teacher recruitment scam is getting louder after the arrest of former Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, who was similarly involved with his son and other government officials in illegal appointment of over 3200 teachers by forging documents.

The former Haryana CM

was sent packing to the National Capital’s Tihar jail after he was convicted by the Delhi High Court for the illegal recruitment of teachers, after the CBI special judge pronounced him and others guilty, leading to offences under the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act.

Back in the State, besides naming the then Education Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh by the CBI in the recruitment scam, the investigating agency had also pointed out that many other legislators of the Congress, including Charles Pyngrope, AL Hek, and Prestone Tynsong besides Sanbor Shullai (NCP) had made recommendations for the appointment of their candidates.

Phidaplin Sohkhiah, a teacher said though the CBI has unearthed grave anomalies, police are yet to take any action.

The police in Haryana have immediately arrested the former Chief Minister after an order of the Delhi High Court. But similar action is not being followed in Meghalaya after the CBI findings and FIR lodged by the CSWO. This amounts to dereliction of duty as rightly pointed out by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing,” Sohkhiah said.

A Shillong resident, Angela Syiem said the government should have taken action against the culprits.

An educationist Itheibha Pachiang from Jowai also echoed the same.

A retired bureaucrat Jayanta Ghosal said that it appears that there is no rule of law prevailing in the state since the culprits go unpunished.
