JOWAI: A coal miner was reportedly crushed to death when a cable of coal-laden trolley snapped mid-way in a 250 feet deep coal pit located at Umthalong near Shnongrim village under Sutnga Elaka, East Jaintia Hills district on Monday.

The victim, Jagir Hussein (21) from Badarpur in Assam was killed on the spot when the trolley fell upon him.

Sources informed that the incident took place at around 9:30 am when coal labourers working in the coalmine were inside the coal pit.

“His body was badly crushed into small pieces,” a source said.

This is not the first mishap in coalmines of Jaintia Hills.
