ASHAs feted in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH, Oct 28: Leaders of the Meghalaya ASHA Workers’ Union were felicitated by the office-bearers from Umden PHC ASHA unit at Duya Hall, Diwon, on Thursday.
The felicitation programme was attended by Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem, as chief guest along with local MDC, Balajied Rani, headmen of different localities of Umden area and ASHA workers of Umden.
The union leaders who were felicitated include Mira June Myrsing, Soni Kharjana, Phidaris Marbaniang and Bestina Langstieh.
In his address, the Nongpoh MLA rued that the incentives and dues received by the ASHA workers were not enough in comparison with the services they rendered, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, even as he added that the government should consider increasing their remuneration as demanded by the Union from time to time.
The MLA informed that he has taken up the matter seriously with the government and it has also been discussed during the Assembly session. He assured to speak to the government on various issues and difficulties of the ASHAs in the state till they are addressed.
Meanwhile, Syiem also handed over a work order to the headman of Bleishiah for construction of a retaining wall in the village which was earmarked under the SWRP scheme, while the local MDC, Balajied Rani, promised to provide CGI sheets for renovation of the community hall of the village.
