ICFAI observes National Voter’s Day

SHILLONG: The ICFAI University Meghalaya, Shillong Campus, observed the National Voter’s Day on Friday. The programme which was held in collaboration with the Seng Samla, Lummawrie had the theme “Proud to be a Voter – Ready to Vote”, which is also the nation’s official theme of the year. Additional Deputy Commissioner EKH DM Wallang, Lummawrie Rangbah Dong PS Nongkynrih and Seng Samla general secretary D. Kharbamon were among those present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr A Gatphoh, Registrar of the University, who also chaired the session, talked at length on the history of Voter’s Day and the significance of voting and voting rights, especially among the youths. She informed the audience that India was the first country to adopt adult franchise and ‘the legacy left by our forefathers has to be judiciously used when we come to vote.’ Chief Guest DM Wallang talked about the initiatives taken by the government to reach out to the youths of the remote corners of the state. He also explained to the gathering how the EVM works and the way one should cast their vote while reiterating that the machine is tamper proof.
