NEW DELHI, Nov 5: After meeting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations Climate Change conference (COP26) parliamentary meeting at Glasgow, United Kingdom, Shillong MP Vincent H Pala, on Friday, held talks with Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, on the use of solar energy in hill states including Meghalaya.
Incidentally, the Prime Minister had pitched the ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’ vision on solar energy to improve the viability of solar power at the summit. He had also announced that the Indian Space Research Organsiation (ISRO) will soon provide the world a calculator that can measure solar energy potential of any region across the globe.
Also, the Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change provides independent advice on setting and meeting carbon budgets and preparing for climate change. It also monitors progress in reducing emissions and achieving carbon budgets and targets.
After serious strain on fossil fuel and other constraints, the world is desperately looking at traditional and non-conventional energy, especially in the hill states, Pala said in the meeting.
The Northeastern states are looking back at the use of such age-old traditional energy like recharging the groundwater and using more sunshine for homes, he said.
The meeting also deliberated the concept of ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’, propagated by India.
