4-lane road project for Shillong Bypass likely

SHILLONG, Nov 6: The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is likely to convert the Shillong Bypass into a four-lane road till Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills.
Officials at the Public Works Department (PWD) informed that the NHIDCL will take up the proposed road project, the survey for which is under way.
The four-lane road project will be taken up under the central government’s Bharatmala Pariyojana.
As of now, the only four-lane national highway in Meghalaya is from Jorabat till Umiam while another four-lane from Rilbong till Upper Shillong, as part of the Shillong-Dawki road project, is expected to be completed in next two-three years.
Meanwhile, the alignment for the proposed improvement of road from Damra to Dalu has been approved and the land acquisition for the project is in progress.
An official said that the detailed project report (DPR) is under preparation.
