Fake currency racket

 SHILLONG: Five fake currency racketeers from Assam allegedly tried to dupe the people at Smit on Monday morning when they purchased goods worth Rs 100 from vendors to get the change for Rs 1000.

Smelling foul play, the irate mob beat up three racketeers while the remaining two managed to escape. The villagers said that the racketeers arrived at 9.30 am on Monday and circulated fake currency notes worth Rs 2 lakh.

As per reports, around 40 people were cheated after the transaction of fake currency notes.
