SHILLONG: The city passengers will enjoy the ride of the JNNURM buses soon as the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) has completed the process of appointment of drivers and conductors to run the buses. Altogether 59 drivers and 71 conductors have been appointed so far while 45 drivers and equal number of conductors would be deployed in the JNNURM buses initially, official sources said on Wednesday. More appointment letters would be issued to drivers and conductors once new buses arrive, the sources said.
The walk-in-interview for drivers and conductors was conducted on July 11 and the results were declared the next day.
The appointed drivers are now being trained on driving disciplines and the conductors on how to issue tickets with Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM).
Though the Government had announced to kick off the JNNURM bus operation on July 16, the MTC is not likely to meet the deadline with Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma still out of station.
Dr Sangma, who had rushed to the US on a private visit recently, is scheduled to arrive here on July 17.
