SHILLONG, Nov 9: Congress MDC, Charles Marngar, on Tuesday sought action against the Syiem of Raid Marwet for allegedly misusing his office to collect royalty.
Speaking during the Question Hour on the second day of the re-assembled Autumn Session of the KHADC on Tuesday, Marngar revealed that the office of the Syiem of Raid Marwet had issued a work order in 2020 to one private party to collect royalty from the forest produce at Umtryna near Pilangkata in Ri Bhoi.
He added said that the office of the Syiem of Raid Marwet had even fixed the rates of collecting royalty from the vehicles carrying forest produce and had only intimated the Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner and Superintendant of Police in this regard.
“How can the Syiem of Raid Marwet collect royalty without informing the Council?” Congress MDC Charles Marngar said.
Marngar also exhorted the Executive Committee to take action against the Syiem of Raid Marwet for misusing his office.
In reply, Executive Member in-charge of Forest department, Macdalyne S Mawlong, said that the Council is unaware of the work order issued by the Syiem of Raid Marwet. “I want to assure that this House that the EC will take this matter seriously. We will not allow any illegalities to take place,” Mawlong said.
