Kohima: The land owner and pattadars of Dimapur, whose lands are being occupied by the Army, Military and Para Military, have written to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur urging the administration to immediately verify all the pockets of land to determine genuine patta holders.

A representation to the Deputy Commissioner signed by Chupfuo Angami, president, and K. Thong, secretary, on behalf of the land owner and pattadars, pointed out that the forum of land owners and pattadars had been standing by the directives of the Government.

No patta holders can occupy the land for the army unless it is officially handed over to and taken over by the state government.

However, it said both the Government and the Army have unfortunately failed to protect the land.

As a result the private party have encroached the land such as in block 7 and block 9.

It also informed that the forum has resolved during its last meeting to stand against the allotment of pattas to non-Nagas, not specified under the law, while adding it has received complaints that land pattas have been issued to non-Nagas.

The forum of landowners and pattadars has urged the Deputy Commissioner to immediately verify all the pockets of land under Army occupation and take necessary action. (UNI)
