Pyngrope, son among 10 file papers on Day 2

 SHILLONG: The father and son duo of Charles Pyngrope and David Nongrum and two sitting legislators– Stanlywiss Rymbai from Umroi and Sohra Congress legislator Dr PW Khongjee– were among the 10 candidates who filed their papers on the second day of filing of nominations on Thursday.

Pyngrope filed his nomination papers to contest from Nongthymmai on a Congress ticket while his son filed his papers to contest from Mawryngkneng as an Independent.

Rymbai will contest as an Independent from Umroi while Dr Khongjee filed his nomination for the prestigious Sohra seat.

Apart from these prominent candidates, former legislator and Congress candidate Lambor Malngiang also filed his nomination papers to contest from Nongkrem.

In Ri-Bhoi, Donlang Sohkhlet (Independent), Lurshai Wahlang (Independent) and Joberwell Lapang (Independent) from Umsning constituency filed their nominations.

On the first day, 12 candidates including two Cabinet ministers– Ampareen Lyngdoh and John Antonius Lyngdoh– filed their nomination papers.

Our TURA correspondent adds: Independent candidates, Subir Marak, Kismet A Sangma and Rakkam A Sangma were the only ones to file nomination papers from the five districts of Garo Hills on the second day.

While two of the Independent candidates filed their nomination in Tura the other filed his papers at Baghmara in South Garo Hills district.

Subir Marak, contesting from 52-Rangsakona constituency of the district and will be pitted against Zenith M Sangma, younger brother of Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma.

Kismet A Sangma will contest from the 50-North Tura (ST) constituency while Rakkam A Sangma will contest from the Siju-Rongara seat.

Meanwhile, Independent candidate from Nongkrem Hilarius Pohchen also filed his papers on the first day of nomination.
