SHILLONG, Nov 22: Citing incessant littering of tourist spots, especially with single-use plastic, by tourists who visit the state, Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang has called upon the Meghalaya government to come up with an anti-littering policy to address this concern.
The MLA proposed this after partaking in the Mountain Legislators Meet 2021 on the third day of the 10th Sustainable Mountain Development Summit held in Darjeeling.
The meet was organised by the Integrated Mountain Initiative and Darjeeling Himalaya Initiative on plastic waste management in the Indian Himalayan Region.
Lok Sabha member Vincent Pala, Ampati MLA Miani D Shira, and legislators from other states also attended the meet.
Shangpliang informed that the legislators signed a declaration to push for a policy in parliament to shun single-use plastic.
