SHILLONG: The State Political Affairs Department on Friday claimed that the inquiry report related to the Shillong jailbreak case has been lying in a sealed cover and nothing can be divulged at present.

Reacting to a news report which had claimed that there was no indication of any fake encounter killing of the jailbreak mastermind Full Moon Dhar in the probe report, the Under Secretary to the Political Department said that the inquiry report was delivered in sealed cover and due to the election further official process could not be carried forward.

“The report has been kept under safe and confidential custody and the same will need to be laid before the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in accordance with Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952,” the official said. Earlier, a member of the Steering Committee Against Murder of Democracy (SCAMoD), which is pursuing the jailbreak case, had written to the Political Department to make public the report.

The Department rejected the appeal by saying that release of the report will invoke the violation of the election code of conduct.

However, none of the clauses of the election code of conduct prevents the release of any inquiry report.
