SHILLONG, Dec 8: Despite official orders for closure of illegal check gates of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the issue is yet to be resolved, but Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has asserted that any illegal check gate operating in the state must be closed down.
“Any illegal check gate, be it the district council or other department… not necessarily district council but all illegal check gates should be closed down,” Tynsong said on Wednesday.
It may be noted that around a month has passed since Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had ordered the closure of these illegal check gates of the KHADC operating along the Shillong Bypass.
Also, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui had earlier informed that the matter is under examination even as he had remarked that steps will be taken at an appropriate time and that a meeting would also be held on December 13 to discuss these issues.
Rymbui had also stated that first discussion will be held at the government level on what is legal or illegal, and if any issue is discovered, all stakeholders would be involved.
The government had ordered the closure of these illegal check gates after media reports surfaced pointing out that they were functioning despite questions being raised on their legality.
