BANGALORE: Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday challenged in the high court governor HR Bhardwaj’s sanction to prosecute him on charges of corruption and illegal land deals, nearly six months after it was given.

Yeddyurappa said in his petition that the governor’s action showed “bias, non-application of mind and constitutional impropriety”.

Bhardwaj on January 21 gave permission to two Bangalore-based advocates to file criminal cases against Yeddurappa on charges of corruption and illegal land deals.

Two days later the advocates, Sirajin Bhasha and KN Balaraj, filed five complaints in a trial court in Bangalore against Yeddyurappa, his two sons, son-in-law and several others.

However, the proceedings in the trial court have been stayed by the high court on a petition by Yeddyurappa’s son-in-law R Sohan Kumar.

The high court is likely to hear Yeddyurappa’s petition Friday, his counsel Sandeep Patil said. (PTI)
