Dorbar Shnong bans entry of outsiders

JOWAI: The Dorbar Shnong Dkhiah West in East Jaintia Hills District has prohibited entry of outsiders or non-residents into the village.

Informing this, Rangbah Shnong I Phawa informed that the Dorbar Shnong held on Tuesday decided to ban entry of any individual or group of people who are not residents of the village.

“The decision was taken to prevent any unfair practices by leaders and supporters of candidates contesting the upcoming Assembly election,” Phawa said, adding, “We don’t want people from outside the village to come and influence our people to cast their votes in their favour by bribing them.”

“We will allow candidates to campaign in the village but no one is allowed to enter the village when there is no election campaign,” he added.

Four arrested for assault released on bail

Four persons indentified as Hauni Lyngdoh, Friday Pakem, John Shylla and Amos Sutnga who had been arrested in connection with a group clash at Jalaphet village recently were on Tuesday released on bail from Jowai District Jail.

Hundreds of people including women from Sutnga village gathered outside Jowai District Jail at the time of their release.

Sumer MDC Richard Sing Lyngdoh and Sutnga MDC Seibor Shadap, besides village elders, were also present at the time of their release.

The four persons had been arrested for allegedly assaulting a group of people at Jalaphet village.
