NEW DELHI, Dec 17: Meghalaya seems to be in a comfortable position as far as its stock of oxygen cylinders is concerned.
Among the Northeastern states, the Centre has allocated the highest number of 3,333 oxygen cylinders which is higher than any other state in the region barring Assam. Assam was allocated 14.968-cylinder units, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, told Agatha Sangma in reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Friday.
All the Northeastern states were together allocated 30,492 oxygen cylinders, the minister said. The Tura MP wanted to know the latest position of oxygen cylinders in the region including Meghalaya.
The Prime Minister’s Office had earlier directed Meghalaya to set up three more oxygen generation plants, one each in East Khasi Hills, West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills. These dedicated plants were to be established at identified government hospitals in the district headquarters across various states/UTs.
