NONGTOIN: People of Athiabari in West Khasi Hills had to wait for three hours for the Chief Minister’s visit there on February 14.

Dr Mukul Sangma was scheduled to arrive at 1 PM but he could only make it by 4 PM. As if his late arrival was not enough, the infuriated the people were further angered when he spoke for just over 3 minutes and left.

However, in the 3 minute speech, he was able to provide few assurances to the people, if they voted the Congress candidate Kingford Kharsyntiew of 33- Rambrai Jyrngam to power. He promised that he would upgrade the Secondary School to Higher Secondary and the PHC to CHC.

The meeting was also attended by several Congress leaders from the AC.
