SHILLONG, Dec 21: Asserting that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act was not longer in vogue in Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the State legislative Assembly cannot pass a resolution for repeal of the Act from the rest of the Northeastern states.
The chief minister’s statement comes just days after the Nagaland Assembly unanimously passed a resolution demanding repeal of the controversial Act from the Northeast, especially Nagaland.
Recalling that AFSPA was repealed from Meghalaya in 2018 shortly after the MDA Government came into power, the CM said that as a citizen, he would want the Act to be repealed from the entire Northeast.
