SHILLONG: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Friday surprised many by stating that the Shillong Airport is being expanded as Meghalaya is now emerging as a tourist destination.

The Prime Minister’s statement has come as a shocker since it is evident that he neither knows about the current status of the Airport nor was he briefed about the same.

In reality, the Shillong Airport at Umroi has been lying non-functional since January as the lone flight operating from the Airport, a 48-seater Alliance Air plane, was taken off service.
