SHILLONG, Dec 28: The All India Trinamool Congress-Meghalaya (AITC-M) has cast aspersions on the state government over an alleged non-functional Community Health Centre (CHC) in East Khasi Hills.
A statement from AITC-M alleged that the CHC not only reels under the dearth of adequate health staff but also remains shut, almost every day.
“At this dysfunctional CHC, the doctor visits only twice a week while the nurse arrives only in case of an emergency,” the statement said.
Quoting a local resident, the party said that the head nurse visits the CHC only when there is an emergency.
“The doctor comes to the CHC only on Mondays and Wednesdays. On other days, no other doctor is found at the health centre,” the AITC said, quoting a local.
The party also contended that the situation in the CHC not only bears witness to the apathy of doctors and the administration towards patients but also corroborates Meghalaya’s lack of preparedness against the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
