AGARTALA:Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the newly-built Tripura Legislative Assembly at the new capital complex here on July 22, officials said on Thursday.

A letter from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat confirmed that he is scheduled to arrive here on July 22 morning and inaugurate the structure built at a cost of Rs 9 crore, they said.

The Assembly will be shifted from Ujjayanta Prasad, the royal palace of Tripura’s former Manikya kings, to the newly built house to adhere to the agreement of the state government with the former insurgent group, All Tripura Tribal Force (ATTF), which came overground in 1993.

The 110-year-old palace, built by British company Martin & Burn will be converted into a museum. (PTI)
